The innovative and efficient fiber optic neutral network sharing business model addresses aspects fully intrinsic to the environmental, social and corporate governance agenda
Company creates management dedicated to the topic within the Sustainability, Governance and Audit board to implement ESG practices
São Paulo, October 26, 2022 – V.tal becomes a signatory to the UN Global Compact in Brazil, an initiative of the United Nations (UN) to mobilize the business community in the adoption and promotion, in its business practices, of 10 (ten) universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and combating corruption. With this, the company that operates with end-to-end digital infrastructure solutions and has the largest neutral fiber optic network in Brazil, starts to implement the principles as part of its business strategy.
The letter of accession signed by CEO Amos Genish and forwarded to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, informs that V.tal should engage in “cooperative projects that promote the broader development goals of the United Nations, in particular the Sustainable Development Goals,” the document says.
To this end, V.tal created a specific management within the Sustainability, Governance and Audit board, led by Vice-President Maria Cláudia Cunha. “V.tal was created with the purpose of enabling connection, transforming people’s lives. And the neutral fiber optic network model introduced to the market not only a new way of doing business, but also aspects totally intrinsic to the environmental, social and corporate governance agenda,” says the executive.
The neutral network model implemented by V.tal, which consists of sharing its fiber optic network infrastructure with operators, internet providers, tel-techs and telecommunications companies, massifies access to high-quality broadband and accelerates the country’s digitalization. According to Anatel data, of the 90 million households (homes and SMEs) in the country, only 29% have access to the internet via fiber optics. V.tal is positioned as an enabler for the improvement of this fiber internet penetration indicator in Brazil.
In addition, by sharing a single – and irreplicable – fiber infrastructure for the provision of internet access by different players in the market, the overlap of cables and equipment from multiple providers is avoided, increasing energy consumption efficiency, lower maintenance costs, not to mention the safety of network operation and handling and visual pollution itself, contributing to a better urbanization of cities and orderly use of poles.
For V.tal CEO Amos Genish, who led this initiative, “V.tal already operates in a strategic and fundamental segment for the dissemination of sustainability-related topics and the UN Goals throughout society. Our role in democratizing high-quality internet access has transformative potential and, by sharing examples, we will be able to collaborate for the adoption of ESG practices by more and more organizations from different segments.”
